It was the day the Eastern Apurímac
Quechua New Testament was dedicated!
I remember the 昀椀rst time I got to
touch a copy of the new book. I’d
been learning to read my language,
but some words were still hard for
me. I couldn’t wait to practice by
reading my new Bible.
One of the first verses
that Luis read in his new Bible
was John 3:16. Here’s what it looks like in
Eastern Apurímac Quechua!
“Diosqa ancha-anchatan kay pachapi runakunata
munakuran. Chaymi sapallan Wawanta kay
pachaman mandamuran, pipas paypi creeqqa
ama wañunanpaq, aswanpas wiñay
kawsayniyoq kananpaq.” — Juan 3:16
I hugged the book to my chest, and then
I carefully set it down in my lap. I slowly
opened the cover and touched the 昀椀rst page.
Then I put my 昀椀nger under the top line of words
and began to read. It was the very 昀椀rst time I read
the Bible in my own language!
Now I get to read the Bible every day. I try to
take very good care of my Bible, because it is my
favorite book. And the day that I got my Bible was
the happiest day of my life so far, because I was
昀椀nally able to read it for myself!
